Tadoussac 2027

Tour overview

Tadoussac is located in ‘La Haute Côte-Nord’, Quebec’s most diverse area for birds. According to eBird, this region ranks #1 in all of Québec for total species recorded, with an impressive 364 species documented.

This tour is focused on experiencing Migration fallouts:
spectacular, short-lived events where weather conditions concentrate large numbers of migrating birds, especially warblers, in coastal habitats.

Throughout the week, I continuously monitor weather systems, wind patterns, overnight migration forecasts, and local bird activity to determine where and when fallouts are most likely to occur each day. While these movements are known to be ephemeral and difficult to predict, my extensive knowledge of the area will place us at the forefront of migration waves, in strategic places for good photography.

The goal is not only to experience high numbers of migrants, but to find them in active close range situations, feeding and moving through at eye-level or below, creating exceptional, intimate opportunities for observation and photography.

Trip Considerations

PACE: Moderate. This is one of the most dynamic and variable tours I offer. Some days will involve hikes, while others may be spent stationary around a single location. While every day contains an element of spontaneity, we’ll always adapt to your pace, accommodating your needs throughout the tour.

Early starts are possible, around 6:00–6:30 a.m., with full days exploring forests, coastlines, and wetlands. With the advantage of having two guides, participants who prefer a later start can be shuttled to the group without missing key sightings. Lunches may be taken in the field on the longer hikes, while dinners are enjoyed at the airBNB or at local restaurants.

CLIMATE: The weather in Tadoussac in late May can be highly variable. Morning temperatures can feel surprisingly cold, while sunny afternoons may be warm enough for a t-shirt. Rain showers are common in this region and often bring some of the best birding conditions. Waterproof gear and sturdy footwear are essential, and dressing in layers is strongly recommended to stay comfortable as conditions change throughout the day. If shorebird photography is part of what draws you in, come prepared with clothing suited for mud, wet sand, and close work at ground level.

We can’t stress this enough:

  1. Shorebirds are only approachable from up close if you’re ready to crawl in the mud and get dirty. Otherwise we will have to do with distant views.

  2. Warblers are gonna be at their peak on a cold, rainy day. We recommend doubling down on rain protection to ensure no highlight is missed.

PHOTOGRAPHY SUPPORT

This tour offers full photography support from your guides, who are professional wildlife photographers. They will share their expertise in all aspects of photography, from camera settings and technical tips to composition, lighting, and post-processing. Guidance is personalized to your goals, whether you are looking to improve your technical skills or simply learn more about field craft. We offer photo-reviewing sessions at the airBNB during the tour as well.
